The whipped running stitch is another variation of the simple Running Stitch. It is also known as the Cordonnet stitch. As the name suggests, this stitch creates a twisted effect. It can be worked on any fabric, and you can achieve beautiful effects when using two contrasting colors or thicknesses.

Step 1
Same as the Double Running stitch, you start by creating a foundation of closely spaced running stitches.
Remember to be consistent, make the stitches the same length and make sure the spaces between them are equal in length.
Step 2
When you finished creating your line of running stitch, change the thread to a contrasting color or you can even try different thicknesses.
Come up from behind the first stitch, slide the needle under the next stitch from top to bottom, or right to left while pulling gently.
Continue whipping until you covered the foundation created at Step 1.
