Craft Ideas for Your Santa Coloring Pages
Here are some fun ways to use these Santa Claus coloring pages, along with a few cool facts and tips for teachers and parents:
1. “Santa Says” Classroom Game
Teachers can use the coloring pages for a fun twist on “Simon Says.” Hold up a colored Santa and say, “Santa says!” followed by holiday-themed actions like “jingle your bells” or “pretend to ride a sleigh.”
Fun Fact: In some countries, like Germany and Austria, Santa is accompanied by a figure called Krampus, who handles the naughty list in a much scarier way!
2. Make a Santa Ornament for the Tree
Laminate the colored pages, punch a hole at the top, and tie a ribbon through it. Now you’ve got yourself some cute Santa decorations to hang on the Christmas tree. For a fun and tactile experience, use cotton balls to create a three-dimensional effect on Santa’s beard and hat.
Fun Fact: Santa’s home, the North Pole, became his official residence in the 1800s thanks to a poem by Thomas Nast, who drew Santa’s workshop there!
3. Host a “Find Santa’s Helper” Scavenger Hunt
After coloring, hide the pages around the house or classroom and create clues for a scavenger hunt. The kids have to follow the clues to find all the hidden Santas!
Fun Fact: In the Netherlands, Santa Claus is known as “Sinterklaas,” and he arrives by boat from Spain, not the North Pole! Dutch children leave shoes out to be filled with gifts instead of stockings.
4. Turn Coloring Pages Into Holiday Cards
Cut out Santa from the coloring page and glue it onto folded cardstock. Have the kids write messages inside and give them as handmade holiday cards to family and friends.
Fun Fact: The image of Santa delivering gifts comes from an old poem called “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (better known as “The Night Before Christmas”).
5. Create a Santa Claus “Wall of Fame”
Collect all the colored pages and create a fun, festive gallery on a wall or bulletin board. Each child’s unique Santa will make the display extra special! Add a playful title like “Santa’s Art Workshop” or “The Many Faces of Santa!”
Fun Fact: Did you know that Santa’s modern red suit was popularized by Coca-Cola ads in the 1930s? Before that, he was often seen in green!
6. Make a “Santa Claus Storybook”
Have the kids write short captions or stories about their Santa on each page. You’ll get some hilarious and adorable storylines.
Fun Fact: Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas, a real-life saint from the 4th century known for his generosity.
