Another stitch palette in action! I created this vibrant stitch color palette for one of my patterns, the Mystical Rose Embroidery Pattern. The pattern design was inspired by traditional tattoo art. For the color palette, I wanted something vibrant, with a strong red that stands out to complete this almost biblical theme.

EMBROIDERY INSPIRATION
The image source for this palette was a hand-drawn sketch I did. When i plan my patterns, especially for needle painting projects, I first color the sketch to get an idea of the color palette I want to use and how the shading will look. I then chose the closest embroidery thread colors.
If you’d like to learn everything you need to know about the needle painting technique, check out my complete guide on how to paint with thread.
For a harmonious finish, I chose a split complementary color palette.
What does it mean?
A split complementary color scheme is when you use any color with two colors on each side of its complement. For example in my Mystical Rose color palette, I used Green with Red-Orange and Red-Violet.
You can adapt this vibrant color palette to any project, and if you would like to learn how I thread-painted this gorgeous pattern you can check out my detailed tutorial.
This pattern is also free and you can download it from my Free Pattern Library.
DMC TO ANCHOR FLOSS CONVERSION CHART
DMC and Anchor are the most commonly used brands of stranded cotton. They both have a wide variety of colors and are made of good-quality stranded cotton.
The thread is comprised of six strands, which can be easily separated as you might want to stitch with less than 6 strands depending on your project.
The Mystical Rose Stitch Color Palette uses the following shades of thread: Lavender Light, Lavender Medium, Lavender Dark, Lavender Ultra Dark, Carnation Medium, Salmon Very Dark, Garnet Medium, Forest Green Light, Forest Green Medium, Forest Green Very Dark, and Blanc (White).
