7 Creative and Fun Ideas for Your Colored Nativity Pages

Once you’ve colored your nativity pages, don’t just tuck them away, turn them into something special! Here are some crafty ideas and fun nativity facts to keep the Christmas spirit shining.

1. Make a Nativity Garland

Cut out the characters and scenes, punch holes at the top, and thread them onto a ribbon or string. Hang it up across a fireplace, doorway, or in a classroom. You’ll have a heartwarming decoration that tells the story of Jesus’ birth.

Fun Fact: Did you know the tradition of nativity scenes started with St. Francis of Assisi in 1223? He wanted to bring the story to life for people who couldn’t read!

Teacher Tip: Each student can contribute one piece to the garland. It’s a great collaborative project that fosters a sense of teamwork and creativity.

2. DIY Christmas Cards

Cut out smaller portions of the colored pages (like Baby Jesus, Mary, or the Star of Bethlehem) and glue them onto blank card stock. Add your own holiday greetings and voila—custom Christmas cards that spread joy and the story of the nativity.

Fun Fact: The word Bethlehem means “House of Bread,” a fitting birthplace for Jesus, who is called the Bread of Life.

Parent Tip: These make adorable keepsakes for family members and a fun way to teach kids about the spirit of giving.

3. Create a Nativity Scene Collage

Use the colored pages to create a large, 3D nativity mural. Add cotton balls for sheep, craft sticks for the manger, and twinkling fairy lights for the Star of Bethlehem.

Fun Fact: The star that guided the Wise Men is often believed to have been a rare astronomical event, possibly a conjunction of planets.

Teacher Tip: Ask kids to retell the nativity story using their mural as a visual aid—it’s both educational and interactive.

4. Pop-Up Nativity Cards

Fold a piece of card stock in half and carefully cut and glue parts of your colored nativity pages to create a 3D effect. Kids will love the interactive element, and it’s perfect for storytelling.

Fun Fact: Shepherds were the first to hear the good news of Jesus’ birth, showing that God values everyone, no matter their social status.

Parent Tip: Use these pop-ups to narrate the nativity story during bedtime—it’s a cozy, meaningful tradition to start.

5. DIY Ornaments

Cut out smaller characters or symbols (like the angel or star), laminate them, and attach a ribbon loop to make ornaments. Hang them on your Christmas tree or even gift them to others.

Fun Fact: Angels play a big role in the nativity story, delivering messages to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds.

Parent Tip: Use this craft to introduce the meaning behind each symbol on the tree—angels, stars, and even the manger.

6. Build a Nativity Flip Book

Staple or bind the pages together in the correct sequence of events from the nativity. Kids can flip through their masterpiece and retell the story to family and friends.

Fun Fact: Jesus was likely born in a humble cave or stable because inns were overcrowded during the census in Bethlehem.

Teacher Tip: Let students present their flip books to the class—it’s a fun way to build confidence and storytelling skills.
