Easy Crafting Ideas for Your Colored Pages
Here are five creative craft ideas to make the most out of the colored pages:
1. Gingerbread Friends Pop-Up Cards
Once your pages are all colored and fabulous, cut them out and fold a piece of construction paper into a card. Glue the gingerbread men inside to create pop-up cards!
Fun Fact: Gingerbread has been around since ancient Greece and was even served at Elizabeth I’s royal court, where she had gingerbread men made to look like visiting dignitaries. You could turn your cards into “royal” greetings too!
2. Gingerbread Man Garland
Punch holes in the tops of the colored figures and thread them onto a piece of twine or yarn. Hang them across the classroom or living room to add some whimsical holiday flair!
Fun Fact: The largest gingerbread house ever made – by the Guinness Book of World Records, was big enough to walk inside and covered nearly 2,500 square feet! Your garland might not be record-breaking, but it’ll sure be adorable.
3. Story Time Puppets
Turn each colored page into puppets for storytelling! Tape a popsicle stick to the back, and voilà, your coloring page can come to life for a mini play! Kids can act out classic stories like The Gingerbread Man or make up their own adventure.
Fun Fact: Did you know the original tale of the gingerbread man was first published in 1875? His famous line, “Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!” is a storytelling staple.
4. Holiday Magnets
Make fridge-worthy gingerbread man magnets! After coloring, laminate the pages (or cover in clear tape), cut out the gingerbread men, and attach small magnet strips to the back. These festive creations can hold up other important papers on the fridge or classroom board while adding some holiday cheer.
Fun Fact: Gingerbread was once used as a medicine! The sweet and spicy flavor was believed to soothe indigestion.
5. “Bake” A Math Game
Turn your pages into number-based game. Write numbers or math problems on each gingerbread figure. Mix them up and have kids match the figures to the correct answers (e.g., 2 + 3 = 5) for a quick and creative math game.
Fun Fact: The first recorded gingerbread recipe came from Greece in 2400 BC, so gingerbread has been helping feed and entertain people for over 4,000 years!
