A Christmas Carol Quotes Intro

For the last few years, I’ve made it a cozy tradition to dive into “A Christmas Carol” every holiday season. There’s just something magical about Dickens’ words, and I always try to stay true to his storytelling. Dickens truly is a literary wizard, making this book a timeless classic and probably one of the best-sellers ever.

A while back, during a stroll through a vintage store, I stumbled upon a copy of this classic book that I simply couldn’t resist bringing home. And that’s how one of our Christmas traditions began. Even though my daughter is a bit too old for Christmas stories, we still try to read a chapter in the evenings leading up to Christmas eve.

Now, as the holiday season approaches and the perfect time for a cozy read is here, I wanted to share with you some of the most inspiring quotes from the book.

It’s my way of revisiting the true essence of Christmas and spreading a bit of that festive magic.

  • “It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humor.”
  • “He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil.”
  • “He did not go to the window, nor did he go to the door, he went to the churchyard.”
  • “In the sight of Heaven, no doubt, this virtue is its own reward.”
  • “He went to church, and walked about the streets, and watched the people hurrying to and fro, and patted the children on the head, and questioned beggars, and looked down into the kitchens of homes, and up to the windows, and found that everything could yield him pleasure.”
  • “He had no further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards.”
  • “I am not the man I was.”
  • “There is a man that would drown the stage with tears and cleave the general ear with horrid speech, make mad the guilty and appall the free, confound the ignorant, and amaze indeed the very faculties of eyes and ears. Yet I am that spirit, I am indeed that man of business.”
  • “No space of regret can make amends for one life’s opportunity misused.”
  • “It isn’t that, Spirit. He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil. Say that his power lies in words and looks; in things so slight and insignificant that it is impossible to add and count ’em up: what then? The happiness he gives, is quite as great as if it cost a fortune.”
